I'm fairly poor, but I don't begrudge the money spent because I really do think that Affinity Publisher is a great program and deserves support. I have the hardware to do it (it requires specialized CPUs, motherboards, and so on) but it is a complicated topic. This has left me trolling around, trying to configure my Linux machine so that I can utilize my five gig GPU for the virtual machine. Sadly, APub is specifically built to run on a video card which supports DirectX10 and most virtual machines can't either simulate or passthrough the video to the bare hardware and because of that, runs like a slug for me, to the point where I cannot even edit text very well on a document that is like five pages or something. I had done a small amount of research to see if APub would work with WINE for example or Lutris (I even have a license for Crossover) but I didn't look too hard because of my VM. I had purchased a copy and downloaded APub into a virtual machine I have of Windows 7 running on my Linux box. Plus, it costs as much to buy Affinity Publisher outright as it does to rent InDesign for a few months.Ĭlick to expand.Yeah, I'm in the same boat. The interface is miles better than Scribus, which I used for some 30ish-page documents and did not like at all.

It integrates nicely with their other products. Scribus Vs Publisher Mac For The I’m a big fan of Affinity Publisher and it’s my current go-to for page layout. You can insert pages from other documents, which makes it easy to merge files. However, it does indexing and tables of contents. Sometimes it's a little crashy, which might have more to do with the fact that I keep my files on Dropbox and they're probably fighting over who gets to write changes. I wish it had object files and book documents.

I think I might have to do the PDF bookmarks by hand as well. I'm going to have to put in page numbers for cross-references "by hand", which I haven't had to do for a while. That it's lacking in some long-document features. Here's the PDF output (80 MB download) if you're interested in seeing it for yourself.

Sorcerously Advanced is about 260 pages, with tons of images and weird layout stuff going on. I'm using Affinity Publisher for my current projects.
